It’s So Fluffy! Pretty and Polished Soft Citrus Hand Cream – Review

Disclosure: The product in this review was sent for consideration by the brand or its PR office.

_____________________________________________________

Hey all my dry-skinned people,  pay attention – Pretty and Polished has a fantastic new cream out for us!

My skin hates me and the skin on my hands can be especially mean. I put lotion on last night…then again last night before bed…then a few times at work…and now I’m looking sadly at my cracked cuticles and scritchy-looking knuckles as I type this post. What the hell, right? Dear skin, what do you want from me?

It’s like Chels over at Pretty and Polished heard my plea and designed her new hand cream just for me. The Soft Citrus Triple Whipped Hand Cream is designed to give dry, scratchy skin the TLC it needs. The texture is light and fluffy but, despite having an airy, whipped consistency, the cream is strong enough work wonders.

We recommend using these creams at night with cotton gloves and socks or in small amounts during the day. A little goes a very long way with these moisturizing products.

I read the above statement on the Pretty and Polished site and thought I used a small amount for my hands –

Pretty and Polished Soft Citrus Hand CreamI just poked my finger into the container and dabbed out a small bit – it melts when it touches your skin! I rubbed the cream around on my hands and realized I had used a smidge too much. My hands looked and felt all slick and a little greasy.

Luckily, the cream is pretty quick to absorb. It could just be my thirsty skin, but my guess is that it’s more the cream. Here is my hand after 30-60 seconds –

Pretty and Polished Soft Citrus Hand Cream Pretty and Polished Soft Citrus Hand Cream

Within another couple of minutes, my hand looked and felt like a better version of itself.

Pretty and Polished Soft Citrus Hand Cream

I really like the Triple Whipped Hand Cream a lot! As already mentioned, it melts upon touching skin and glides on like a dream. My hands felt a little greasy at first but I also got near instant relief for dry spots. It absorbed well and left my skin feeling incredible. I also like using this product on my elbows and plan on trying it overnight on my feet as suggested on the site. Another plus is that the Soft Citrus scent is perfect for spring and summer. It’s light and fruity; it reminds me of a tropical drink or almost of a creamsicle. Mmmm!

The Soft Citrus Hand Cream is available in two sizes on the Pretty and Polished site – you can choose between a 1oz jar for $5 or a 4oz jar for $15, so buying the larger size is a little cheaper per oz. I say go big or go home with this one!

A good breakup? theBalm Balms Away Eye Makeup Break-up

Want to hear something I hate but had resigned myself to? Eye makeup removers. Yes, all of them in general. As someone who usually wears at least mascara and eyeliner, I have always needed some type of eye makeup remover to take those products off at the end of the day. I tried all different brands and types – this one kind would burn my eyes, that one would make my eyes pink and a little scratchy, this one would dry my skin out, that one would be gentle but was so oily I felt like I was looking out through a fog after… I resigned myself to the fact that there was no perfect eye makeup remover. I settled for the best one I found and that was that. Until…

theBalm! That’s right, a Hautelook sale came along and I spotted Balms Away Eye Makeup Break-up. If you read my last post, you know I love theBalm blushes. I also love theBalm lipsticks. I figured that, by default, I would love this makeup remover. And the description makes it sound awesome. See (/read) for yourself –

Fortified with Vitamins A, C, & E and a blend of plant-derived Sterols and Lipids, this Eye Makeup Break-Up is a solid eye makeup remover, gentle enough for the most sensitive skin. Vitamins and Lipids work to hydrate and restore elasticity around the delicate eye area while keeping it smooth.

Sounds sweet, right? Right. And the name made me laugh. Ordered!

First of all, I love the tin. It’s sturdy and closes tightly so that the product can’t dry out and it won’t pop open if you throw it in a bag or, if you’re like me, drop it. Plus that packaging is cute with the old-fashioned script and girl.

theBalm Balms AwaytheBalm Balms Away

The second thing that won me over is all of the product that you get. I don’t know why, but I have a hard time grasping the size of products without seeing them in comparison to something familiar. So, as I’ve done with other products, I took a picture of the tin in my hand so that you can get a visual on the size. Well, kind of. I have never measured my hand so you don’t know exactly how big it is, but you get the gist.

theBalm Balms Away

So first you start with makeup on, obviously. Please excuse my crazy brows, they just refused to be tamed by anything. I have on light liner and shadow in the photo below, as well as Benefit They’re Real! mascara.

theBalm Balms Away

Balms Away is a solid eye makeup remover that softens upon touch. You take a dollop of Balms Away and slowly rub it in a circular motion over your closed eye for about a minute, less if you don’t have much makeup on. Your eyeball with look something like this in the process –

theBalm Balms Away

When you’re all finished circling around with the product, you use a soft tissue to wipe it away. Voila! A clean eye.

theBalm Balms Away

I still had a few traces of mascara left, but not much. I think part of that is because I didn’t use a full dollop of product. More importantly, my eyes didn’t sting, I wasn’t left seeing through a haze like I am with oily products, and the skin around my eyes felt taken care of and soft. Ahhh…finally, an eye makeup remover that likes my eyes and vice versa! I really love this eye makeup remover  🙂

Balms Away retails for $20/2.2oz on theBalm site. Keep an eye out for Hautelook sales though so you can snag this great makeup remover for even less! If you sign up for Hautelook, please use my invite code – http://www.hautelook.com/invite/JK7563 – I’d really appreciate it!   🙂

Butter London Dodgy Barnett – Swatches/Review

A few months back, Ulta had a sale on Butter London and they were something like $9 a polish. I’ve never seen that happen so, naturally, I snagged a few bottles. One beauty I picked up is Dodgy Barnett. I haven’t the foggiest what a Dodgy Barnett is, but I’m loving Butter London’s take on it!

Butter London Dodgy Barnett

Dodgy Barnett is a silvery gray shade listed in the metallic section of the Butter London site. My favorite thing about the shade? Although it doesn’t really look like it in the bottle, Dodgy Barnett is holographic. And let me tell you what, girlfriend has a soft spot for holos.

For all swatches, I used two to three thin coats, plus base and top coat. Lighting is in the caption section; click to enlarge!

Dodgy Barnett wasn’t as holo as my Color Club Halo Hues, but it was still noticeably holographic and beautiful. It applied smoothly and lasted longer as a mani than anticipated (All Hail the Queen chipped within a day or two). I’m very happy that I picked up this shade, although I don’t know that I would have spent $15 on it. You can snag Dodgy Barnett and other Butter London shades for $15/4oz. online or at major beauty retailers like Ulta and Sephora.

What do you think of this shade? Do you have any idea what “Dodgy Barnett” means?

The Balm Blushes – Swatches of a Fantastic Four

If you haven’t been on Hautelook.com yet, you should probably just avoid it before you lose all your money. On second thought, go check it out. Hautelook is a free, premier members-only site that offers private, limited-time sale events on a wide variety of brands. Brands can be anything from everyday ones like NYX or Speedo to higher-end brands like Lorac and Missoni. Stellar brands for amazing prices. I have a love/hate relationship with the site, largely because the sales are timed and expire after just a few days. Some sell out hours into the sale though, which means you have to act fast!

One of my favorite brands to snag on Hautelook is The Balm cosmetics. Every time The Balm is featured on Hautelook, all of the products listed are 50% off. The options are more limited than The Balm’s website but…helllloooo…50% off! I used the last sale as an opportunity to snag some blushes. I was happy with my basic Wet n’ Wild blushes, but my cheeks had been breaking out and I had heard good things about the The Balm blushes. I picked up DownBoy, FratBoy, Hot Mama, and Cabana Boy.

The Balm Blushes

The Balm Blushes

L: DownBoy R: FratBoy

L: DownBoy
R: FratBoy

The Balm describes DownBoy as such – A polished and put-together woman makes the boys go wild and this baby pink shadow/blush adds just the right amount of color to ensure that you turn heads. The light-reflecting particles give off an aura of elegance without detectable shimmer. When you can’t keep the boys away, blame it on the blush.

FratBoy’s description doesn’t say anything about the color (FratBoy’s Talc-free, finely-graded powder formula adds just the right flush so you look pledge perfect around the clock), which is the perfect shade of peach.

The Balm Blushes

The Balm Blushes

Hot Mama is listed as a blush/shadow like the blushes above, but also suggested as a highlighter. The Balm also says, “This pinky-peach hue adds a splash of color to your cheeks and a hint of shimmer to your lids, while illuminating your finest features.” This shade has a fine gold shimmer running through it and reminds me a lot of Nars Orgasm!

Last but not least, Cabana Boy –  Nothing is more satisfying than being indulged, and this dusty-rose blush will ensure that you have all the boys attending to you.

The Balm Blushes

All of the blushes come in a little cardboard flip compact with a mirror inside for application or touch-ups. They come tucked in a little sleeve printed with the same design as the packaging itself. I was going to just toss the sleeves but ended up keeping them to make sure that the compacts stay shut whenever I pack them for travel.

Natural light

All of The Balm blushes were smooth and made of finely-milled powder. They applied evenly and easily and were a breeze to blend out. All of them are also talc-free, which can clog pores and cause breakouts for some individuals. I applied these to my cheeks with a light hand and added more to build up the color. I really love these blushes and, as much as I like my basic Wet n’ Wild blushes, I can definitely see and feel the difference between drugstore and The Balm blushes. I also love the pin-up style girls on the packaging – so cute!

These blushes retail for $21/3.3oz on The Balm website, but you can usually snag them on a Hautelook sale (if you have the patience to wait) for just $10.50. I highly recommend you give one of these beauties a shot. I have not and do not plan to use these as shadows like The Balm suggests trying, but let me know how it looks if you try it sometime!

On a side note, please use my invite code if you sign up for Hautelook ! Doing so helps me to earn points for future purchases so I would really appreciate it  🙂   http://www.hautelook.com/invite/JK7563

What do you think of The Balm blushes – do any look good? What’s your go-to blush?

Adventure Weekend! Adventuring in W.V

My parents decided to come visit me over Father’s Day weekend and then the whole family joined in! Well, not the whole family, but my brother, aunt, uncle, cousin, and grandma. So quite a bit of family. My aunt and uncle have an RV and love camping. It just so happens that my new home is near a big campground…which just so happens to be near an Adventure Center.

Mom knows I’m up for anything once (well, almost anything) and she started crafting a bucket list a year or so back. She saw camping and the Adventure Center as bucket list opportunities and started conspiring with my aunt. My grandmother went white-water rafting a few years ago and was like pffff, child’s play, I can do it again no problem, get on my level. She’s an asthmatic who always has pneumonia, always has some health issue going on, and always has a hundo on hand to puff away on. Crazy grandma. We couldn’t let her out-man us…we signed up for a white-water rafting expedition and zip-lining. If you can’t tell, the guys had very little say in any of the plans.

My parents showed up Friday right as I got home from work and we headed over to the campground to meet up with everybody else. We basically just spent Friday night stuffing our faces around a fire. I don’t really like marshmallows unless they’re in s’mores, but I was really jonesing for a beach marshmallow. (“Beach marshmallow?” you may be asking. Yes. As in – I like my marshmallows with a nice, golden, even tan.) However, it turns out that I struggle to get that golden glow after one too many Lime-A-Ritas…

Charcoal anybody?

Charcoal anybody?

Saturday brought on white-water rafting! It was a clear, sunny day and perfect for rafting according to our guide. We signed in, filled out waivers, and then listened to a guide tell us about how if our raft flipped we should not try to stand because our feet could get stuck in rocks and we might snap a leg in half. We were also told not to use our oars to beat one another, play light sabers, or sword fight. The company must have had some …interesting guests in the past, haha. Then we strapped on old, gnarly-looking life vests and helmets and away we went to the river!

Some poor soul named Josh was assigned to be our raft guide. Poor soul? Well my grandma was grumbling about her knees. My cousin was pretending his oar was a gun. My dad was asking anything and everything about the local geography and towns. My brother kept dropping his oar as far into the water as possible without letting go for “depth-checks.” My aunt was giving her own rafting directions to us. Oy vey.

It was a fun time though! There were only a few sets of Levels 1-3 rapids. One raft near us went bouncing over a rapid and everyone went flying out but the guide. Some poor girl got whisked away by the current right away and kept trying to stand. We were all like “NOOO, YOUR LEGS WILL SNAP!” and the guides were yelling for her to swim on her back to a rock so the current didn’t carry her out of reach. Other than that bit of excitement, we just kind of drifted peacefully along and paddled every now and then. We stopped once by a bank in the woods for a break. I felt a tickle on my ankle and someone behind me yelled “Snake!!!” I kicked my leg out and it turns out it was just a guide tickling my ankle with a reed…poor guy almost took a heel to the face.

Sunday we went ziplining, although grandma opted out and my cousin backed out after the practice zip. Most of my family got ridiculously tangled up just putting the harnesses on and our one-on-one guide smelled a little boozy. I feared a little for our lives for those reasons alone, but I’m happy to report that we all made it out alive!

Out of the whole group, outsiders and my family, I was the only one who spun in circles while zipping down the line. My aunt said it must be because I’m bottom-heavy and I asked our guide what I needed to do to about my big ass sending me in circles. His suggestion? Get a smaller ass. Womp, womp – haha. It turns out I just needed to keep my holding wrist straight. Guess I can keep my big ass after all! It was a lot of fun zipping around in the tree-tops once I got the hang out it and I think it’d be fun to go again some time.

Don't be deceived. This bridge sways while you walk - I got a little sea sick (or is it bridge sick?)

Don’t be deceived. This bridge sways while you walk – I got a little sea sick (or is it bridge sick?)

I’d say this Father’s Day weekend was a success! I got to spend time with my Daddy (and the rest of my family) and my mom and aunt got to check some things off of their bucket lists. If you are ever around an Adventure Center, I suggest you sign up for something and step outside of your comfort zone! It can be a little pricey but I think it’s worth it  🙂

What are some things on your bucket list??

Pretty and Polished Bombshell Swatches & Review

Disclosure: The product in this review was sent for consideration by the brand or its PR office.

_____________________________________________________

A bombshell is a very attractive woman. An example of a bombshell is Marilyn Monroe, the inspiration behind the Gentlemen Prefer Blondes collection by Pretty and Polished. In this case though, Bombshell (from abovementioned collection) is a glitterbomb of a polish inspired by the TV show Smash.

I watch a motley collection of TV shows. Bones? Uh, yah. The Walking Dead? Count me in. The Office? Looove it. All of the Real Housewives? I might not always admit it, but chyeah. Smash? Never heard of it. Naturally curious, I looked it up! According to IMDB, Smash is about a team of people preparing a Broadway musical about the life of Marilyn Monroe. Ohhhh, I see the connection. So “Bombshell” because Marilyn was one? A dot more googling ensued and this popped up –

I’m assuming Bombshell is the Broadway play the team is preparing. Connecting the dots, look at me go!

Bombshell certainly fits the bill. This black jelly polish is a total glitz-fest; it is jam-packed with a bajillion glitters, more or less. Swirling my bottle around under the light, I spotted small, bright blue hex; little lime green and hot pink squares; pink and some coral-ish hex; maybe something circular lurking beneath all those other glitters?

2013_05_30_06_41__1024x1024The first time I was a bombshell wearing Bombshell (Ha! Sorry, I had to do it), I decided to wear it on its own. Let’s just start by saying that this is the thickest polish I’ve used. It wasn’t a bad formula or anything, Bombshell is just SO full of glitter that that’s what you get on your nail – a thick mass of glitter. I moved it around, spread it out, and started wondering where all these glitters I hadn’t spotted in the bottle had come from. As the base is a jelly, I used another coat. I ended up using three total and then a few layers of top coat because this is one top-coat hungry glitter polish!

3 thin coats

3 thin coats

3 thin coats

3 thin coats

One think I love about glitterbomb jellies is that when you use a couple coats, you can see the glitters suspended through the different layers. This polish had great depth when worn this way and I was surprised by how many different glitters are in Bombshell. In addition to the ones already noted, I also ended up with big blue hex, silvery holographic circles, small orange hex, pink circles, and a few blue diamonds. Beautiful! But a little chunky with all the glitter and top coating, so I decided to try Bombshell layered over a black cream base.

Two very thin coats over black. Excuse my cuticles.

Two very thin coats over black. Excuse my cuticles.

Pretty and Polished BombshellAhhh, much better. I feel like the black cream base really helped the glitters pop and shine through. Two thin coats still gave me the depth I love but smoothed everything out. I still needed a few layers of topcoat to really give me a shiny, even finish, but I felt this was a better look overall. As with many other glitters, I decided to try it matte.

Pretty and Polished Bombshell Pretty and Polished Bombshell

Gorgeous! Swoonworthy nails worthy of the name Bombshell. This is such a beautiful and unique polish – kudos to Pretty and Polished! I was a little confused about how Bombshell fit in with the collection when I first received it, but it all fell into place once I poked around a little and wore the polish. This is a showstopper. Glitz and glam. Stageworthy sparkle. A diva of a polish.

You can get Bombshell or other shades from the Gentlemen Prefer Blondes collection at the Pretty and Polished site – go order now while these beauties are only $7 because of a moving sale! Now if only Pretty and Polished would make an Audrey Hepburn collection… (hint, hint Chels!).

I have a really unglamorous summer job – I’m working at a car shop. Teacher by school year, beauty salesperson by weekend, blogger by night…car shop receptionist/odds-and-ends person by summer? Yes.

The  shop is run by this nice grandfather who has taken to calling me “girl.” Whenever he needs me to do something, he likes to reassure me with, “Don’t worry, you won’t get dirty girl.” But somehow I always do. Sort vehicle lightbulbs for inventory? Dirty hands. Brake pump to help drain the air from brakes? Dirty feet. Pick up the phone after boss touched it with oil hands? Now I have oil hands. Popping tags on and off key rings? Chipped nails. Gahhh.

Anyways, I tell you this so you can imagine my happiness at finding a sample of Blue Raspberry Sugar Scrub in the mail from Pretty and Polished! I came home from work in need of a good scrub, so the timing could not have been better. Thanks Chels!

Here is what I have to say about this scrub – mmmmm! First of all, the Blue Raspberry Sugar Scrub smells amazing. It’s just the right amount of sweet and makes me think of candy. Secondly, this scrub left my skin smelling and feeling wonderful. It was gritty enough to really exfoliate and slough off all my dry, shop-ruined skin without being painful. It rinsed away cleanly and my skin felt soft and polished afterward. Plus I smelled delicious.

This scrub is available at the Pretty and Polished site in two sizes. A 4oz. container is $5 or a 8oz. container is $9. Go for the 8oz – this scrub is great and you get a dollar off by buying the larger size (because 4oz @ $5 each x2 = $10, just so that we’re all following my math).

Hey Polish Lovers – There’s a Big Sale Over at Pretty & Polished!

Where are my polish lovers (or, if you’re like me, hoarders) at? I have news of a big sale for you!
If you follow my blog (and if you don’t, you should 🙂 ), you know that one of my go-to indie polish brands is Pretty and Polished. In fact, I just posted about the brands Sweet Sixteen Collection (remember – limited edition!) and am in the process of choosing photos to post for Bombshell. So what is this sale that I’m so excited about?
Pretty and Polished is moving! Why is that a good thing? Well, have you ever moved? I have and let me tell you what – I always find myself trying to clean out as I pack because I don’t want to move and find new homes for everything I have. It’s like you get to packing and things resurface out of nowhere and you don’t know how you fit all your crap into the home you’re moving out of in the first place. Again, why is this a good thing? Pretty and Polished is on the same page as me, which means the company doesn’t want to move all of its inventory. What do you do when you don’t want to move your inventory? You have a big sale – woohoo!
Here is the run down on the sale itself and polishes that will be gone once they are sold out –
We are lowering all of our prices from now until we run through the currently made inventory at our old location. You will be able to get most of our products at near wholesale cost!
Once July 1st comes around we will be changing a lot! We will be releasing a slew of new colors and products but we will also be discontinuing some as well. The following is a list of polishes that will no longer be available once we sell out:
Punk’d Up Betty
Boy Bleu
Sand Art
Parting the Red Sea
Spring Fling
Ruby
Sea Spray
(Plus all polishes in our Say Goodbye and From the Vault sections)
But we will have a lot of new products to offer as well including a Blogger inspired line, a Candy Shoppe line, and much much more!
The bottom line – this is a fantastic sale and you should use this opportunity to snag any polishes you’ve had your eye on! I know I sure am (does this surprise you?).
To get your polish shopping/hoarding on, head on over to http://shopprettyandpolished.com/. You can also stay on top of sale and shade updates by following Pretty and Polished on Facebook and/or Instagram (prettyandpolishd).
Okay, stop reading – get shopping!  🙂

Pretty and Polished Daddy Daughter Dance Swatches & Review

One of my favorite indie brands, Pretty and Polished, recently released a limited-edition Sweet Sixteen Collection. The Sweet Sixteen Collection consists of three glitter polishes meant to “represent a girly side of nail polish that can make you feel sweet sixteen again.”

I was trying to be on a no-buy when Chels emailed me about the collection – what timing, right? I compromised with myself and decided to only order one of the three polishes. I was torn between the three shades, so I’ll show you all three and you can tell me if you think I made the right choice or not.

Sweet 16 is a milky coral pink based polish packed with the prettiest matte glitters. Anyone can find their inner sweet 16 with this girly polish. Daddy Daughter Dance is a creamy light blue polish packed with glitters. This polish isn’t just for daddy’s girls. Those of us without fond fatherly memories can enjoy this too! To Be a Lady is a soft purple cream polish with some amazingly unique glitters! 16 is a time to be young and to be a lady.

I am not much of a blue polish gal but am a Daddy’s girl. I also really liked what I could see of the glitter/color combination, so I decided to just order Daddy Daughter Dance.

Daddy Daughter Dance is a light, almost murky blue crelly filled with glitter. The glitter mix includes large pink circles, small metallic blue circles, large green hexes, and small magenta hexes.

IMG_1977

Glitters can be tough polishes, so I set my bottle upside down for a bit to let the glitters reach the brush. I gave it a little roll and shake before applying two thin coats over a base coat. I also applied two generous layers of top coat to really cover the glitter and get a smooth finish. Later I noticed some little air bubbles – I really don’t know how that happened. Maybe I shook the bottle too much?  😦   Oh well…bubbles happen. At least they’re tiny ones. Pretend they’re not there, k? Thanks!  🙂

IMG_2026 IMG_2027 IMG_2030

Next up – matte topcoat!

IMG_2035 IMG_2034

Two coats gave me good coverage, but I had a little VNL if I looked closely. I decided to try two thin coats of Daddy Daughter Dance over one coat of white polish to make the blue pop and make it more opaque. It did make the color and glitter stand out a little better color-wise, but also made my nails look a little chunky monkey after two coats of top coat. I probably should have stuck with one coat of Daddy Daughter Dance, but I love how using multiple coats of crellies lets you see layers of glitter. It was also a little hard for me to cover the white edges because Daddy Daughter Dance was more sheer around the edges of my nails.

IMG_1972 IMG_1978

Overall, I’m pleased with Daddy Daughter Dance. It’s a fun glitter combination and pays a little tribute to one of the most important people in my life, my Daddy  🙂  I wanted to post this yesterday for Father’s Day but didn’t have time…womp, womp. You can purchase Daddy Daughter Dance or any of the other Sweet Sixteen polishes at the Pretty and Polished website – polishes are currently only $7 each (!), so happy shopping!  🙂

Which shade is your favorite from the collection? Do you think I made a great choice or would you have liked to see one of the other shades instead?

Philly Phun! My weekend adventure home

This past weekend I ventured home to see my family in Philly – woohoo! I work a lot. Like a lot. We’re talking at least 50 hour weeks, sometimes more if there is a lot going on, so it’s SO nice when I get a chance to get away and relax. I finished work Friday, drove an hour back to my place to change/throw some junk in a bag, then drove almost three hours to my parents – and promptly fell asleep. Crazy Friday, right? Haha.

Saturday was my fun day! I begged my mom, aunt, and grandma to take me to the annual Lilly Pulitzer sale because Saturday was the very last day. They actually agreed, so my Saturday started bright and early. I don’t think my family understood my desire to own something Lilly until we got to the expo center. My aunt pulled up and was cruising slowly past the entrance – ain’t nobody got time fo’ that! I jumped out of the car and went running inside like a maniac. I stopped briefly to check out this amazing Lilly jeep –

1005052_10200743306699210_1254133239_n

Hello beautiful! The company changes the designs on their Jeeps every year and I am extremely envious. Anyways, what I really wanted was a Delta Zeta tote bag. I ran to the tote section and started flinging totes through the air in my search, but…they were all gone  😦   I was so sad. Another DZ and I pouted and grumbled together and then a gay man made me feel better by asking every girl that touched a tote which sorority they belonged to. If they looked confused he was like, “OH NO honey, you can’t wear these letters. Or even carry them. Maybe they’ll come out with college prints. OHHHH, isn’t that a great idea, girls??”

I eventually tore myself away from the tote boxes and then realized there were other things in the center. Racks and racks of beautiful things! I spotted a boucle cropped blazer with a scalloped close and was like “OH YES…no, I can’t. But OH MAN. Holy sh*t, it’s on sale for $100. But OH MAN.” I told myself I would just carry it around petting it while I looked at the eye candy. Before I knew it, my aunt had filled up a huge shopping bag and my mom was holding a place in the dressing room line. How’d that happen? Once in the dressing room, I realized my mother and aunt were quite possibly the worst people to shop with. They were delighted that everything fit me like it was made for me, that the colors popped, that everything was classic and fun and, most importantly, that it was my tab they were running up. I was delighted that everything fit perfectly and that I am somehow a size 0 in Lilly. I finally made my aunt stop putting dresses in my bag and went to try on. The dressing room was actually one huge room filled with mirrors and you just picked one and got buck-nekkid to change in front of everyone. My aunt and mom worked out a system where one would block my rumpus and the other would handle the garments. Great plan, right? In theory, yes. But they kept getting distracted by all the gorgeous dresses in the room, so the girls around me saw a lot of T&A. Sorry ladies around Mirror 102…my bad. As I’m sure you guessed, I did not leave empty handed. I bought three dresses and that blazer (whoops), and my mom bought me a Murfee DZ Scarf for Christmas. Then I felt sick over my Final Sale bill and my mom rubbed my back while telling me I should have bought another dress she really liked because those clothes are investment pieces. Gahhh.

After I got over my nausea

After I got over my nausea

After we dragged ourselves away from Lilly, we headed to Reading Terminal Market in Philly. If you’ve never been and you’re nearby – go! This is such an amazingggg marketplace. It’s a crowded, crammed building full of food stalls and some craft/odds-and-ends stalls. Every food you can imagine is there. A sandwich shop next to a sushi shop; a dessert shop next to an Amish shop; a cheesesteak shop next to a beef jerky shop. You get the picture. As a semi-foodie, I never know where to turn first when I go and just want to run around shoving all the deliciousness into my mouth.

I couldn’t decide what to get but finally settled on a cheesesteak because I love them and hadn’t had a great one in awhile. When you go to Philly and get a cheesesteak, order it the right way – with Whiz (Cheese Whiz, that is) and at least a little onion, even if you’re not a huge fan. Mmmmm. I loved my little shop that I ordered from. The line was an eclectic mix of people. The cashier was a sweet and sassy little old lady. The cook was bickering with his help over how much a Tiffany’s necklace cost before finally just asking me. You don’t just stand in line, you interact with the people around you and I think that’s part of what I love.

As I said, I’m not a full-out foodie but have a touch of it. I love to try new things and am drawn to fun food and flavor combinations. I usually hate donuts, but stopped dead in my tracks when we passed the donut stand.

Don’t be fooled by these innocent looking donuts! They were special flavors. Well not so much the powdered one, that was sugar-lemon tart, I got that for my Dad. My mom bought herself a blueberry fritter and a banana cream. Mine were much more exciting in my book!

I got Caramel Apple,

IMG_1988We stuffed our faces and headed over to the Camden waterfront for Cirque du Soleil Totem – WOOOHOOOO! I’ve been begging to see one of these shows for years. I felt a little sick, but thought it was a mix of Lilly-spending and cheesesteak duking it out with pretzels and donuts. Then my aunt wanted a bunch of pictures by the waterfront and my eyes were so sensitive to the light that it looked like I was winking in every picture. I’m not kidding. See? –

419106_10200737005861693_1144719760_nI wasn’t trying to wink though. For those of you prone to headaches, you may have already realized what I did not – I was getting a migraine. Womp, womp. What a buzzkill! Luckily it didn’t hit full force until after Cirque du Soleil and I got to take in the full amazingness of Cirque.

Totem focuses on the journey of the evolution of mankind. It doesn’t have any real timeline and instead jumps around throughout time, style, and evolution in general. As noted, the show was fabulous. While you wait under the big top for the show to start, entertainers roam around interacting with the audience. I had a big old lady in front of me and the Totem fisherman clown came around. He took someones popcorn, tossed a handful of it down someones shirt, and then handed the container to someone else. Then a performer in a top hat came over and when he tipped his hat, a beam of light shot out from under it. I guess this was all too much for the lady in front of me because she cried out, “OH LAWDY!” and I about lost it laughing. The show shut me up real fast though. Sparkling costumes, acrobatic stunts that convinced me I would witness a death, chiseled abs and backs, leaping, soaring, singing – this show had it all.

The things those Cirque perfomers can do is crazy. We were in the second row from the stage and sometimes the acrobats soared out over us. So cool! Tickets are pricey but definitely worth it. Seriously, look up “Cirque du Soleil Totem” on YouTube – you can see some of the acts and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Go see it!

The rest of the weekend was not nearly as exciting as Saturday. I got a new Kindle, spent time with family, played with my puppies, and caught up on sleep. Then I drove back Monday to get back to the grind on Tuesday. I hate the grind! I spent too much last weekend though, so the grind is necessary. Boooo.

What’d you do last weekend? Any fun plans for this weekend? Are you a Lilly Lover like myself? What about a Cirque du Soleil lover? Dish!
